Palm Architecture

The order Arecales contains over 2,600 species of palm, each one a masterclass in fractal geometry. The fronds of a coconut palm follow the same mathematical branching patterns as river deltas, lightning bolts, and human bronchial trees.

Five species. Five architectures. Cocos nucifera, Phoenix dactylifera, Roystonea regia, Washingtonia filifera, Dypsis lutescens. Each one evolved its own solution to the same problem: how to capture maximum sunlight with minimum material.
