The African Wild Dog

Lycaon pictus — literally, painted wolf. No two African wild dogs share the same pattern. Every individual is unique, identifiable by their specific arrangement of black, white, and tan patches.

This is the most endangered large carnivore in Africa. Fewer than 6,600 remain. Their painted coats serve as individual identification within the pack.
